Hi!

Margaret Canady is a dancer, choreographer, photographer, and aspiring clinical psychologist currently based in Los Angeles. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Margaret graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In May 2020, she received her B.A. in Psychology magna cum laude from Harvard University, minoring in Theatre, Dance, and Media.

In 2019, Margaret directed the Harvard Ballet Company, which included directing two original productions at the American Repertory Theatre and Farkas Hall. In 2020, she received the Suzanne Farrell Dance Award from the Harvard Office for the Arts in recognition for outstanding artistry in the field of dance. She has performed works by Sidra Bell, Ohad Naharin, Aszure Barton, Jill Johnson, and Mario Zambrano, among others. Her choreography has been featured with the Harvard Dance Project, the Harvard Ballet Company, and the Harvard Radcliffe Modern Dance Company, along with several independent films, music videos, and projects. She was awarded an Emerging Choreographers Residency by the Harvard Office for the Arts in 2016.

As an aspiring clinical psychologist, Margaret’s research interests are to understand the cultural and contextual factors of trauma and to use these findings to expand culturally responsive interventions that are scalable and accessible. Her artistic creations are often centered on amplifying marginalized voices whilst celebrating stories, experiences, and identity. Currently, Margaret is working on The Mixed Race Project, a collection of interviews and photographs that showcase how mixed race Americans see, celebrate, and question their multiracial and intersectional identities.
